DanceNOW | SHOWS

Following a ‘better than ever’ successful return to live presentation in the fall of 2023, after an almost four year hiatus, we return to the pub, serving as an incubator to support the development of new work. The DN mission is to bring innovative and inspirational dance to the long-time dance fans that we have generated over the past two plus decades, and to the new and non-traditional dance audiences that frequent NYC’s hottest tiny stage. We will continue to present in our traditional festival-like format of placing young, established and mature voices side by side to offer 5 minute or less works, as DANCENOW / NOW. Our 2024 presentation will feature a presentation of all new works, commissioned from 25 artists, offering a four-day run of two different programs of twelve artists each night. The series will be hosted by Deborah Lohse as TruDEE.

Join us Wednesday September 4th at 7pm and Friday September 6th at 7pm.

Co/Motion 2023

a dance + movement intensive

co/motion is a dance + movement intensive designed to bring together a dynamic group of movement artists in boston. our mission is to give dancers, particularly professionals, a space to immerse themselves in great dancing for a week with both opportunities for rigor, as well as space for listening to the body. we explore how we want to show up in community without any tease of a job as a motivator, constantly creating pure connections and authenticity in movement.  with our programming, we try to eliminate the idea that anyone wanting to attend must require specific background in their training, but rather emphasize diversity in movement. days 1-5 of the intensive, participants will partake in somatic ballet, contemporary, upside down, and creative process. day 6 of the intensive is dedicated to the ongoing creative process. our creative content director will be on site each day capturing the intensive and providing participants with materials to develop their digital resume. to see works created at previous years at co/motion, click here. scroll down to learn more about co/motion 2023! contact heather at he@hybridmotion.us with any questions.

All applications are due on May 7th, 2023 at 11:59PM EST.

NVA & Guests creates interdisciplinary and evocative movement-based live performances and films that forge genuine connections among the spectator, stage, and screen. With playful narration, ambiguous characters, dynamic physicality, and a touch of humor, Artistic Director Nicole von Arx draws upon her background in contemporary and immersive dance/theatre scenes as she invites audiences to actively participate while remaining present in their bodies and minds.

Gibney Classes

WEEKLY CLASSES

Resuming November 8th, 2022 : Tuesdays noon-1.45pm and Thursdays noon-1.45pm at Gibney in New York.

Nicole von Arx offers an advance level dynamic contemporary class that incorporates elements of floor work, yoga, improvisation, and her latest choreography research. She encourages you to embrace the physical and emotional effort, and explore the extent of your body and mind’s capacity. Her warm-up is a series of challenging exercises focusing on isolating, strengthening, aligning, and balancing the body. This will lead to improvisation tasks emphasizing sensation, timing, and space. The class culminates in a complex phrase work allowing dancers to discover Nicole’s movement vocabulary and musicality. This is an advanced class!

Nicole's class and work are influenced by the choreographers she has worked with, such as Jasmin Vardimon, Bryan Arias, and Loni Landon. Looking forward to dancing with you!
